Labrador Trevor Usher At Northumberland Wedding

From Sunday Sun, 21 JUNE 2009

IT’S USUALLY the vicar who wears the dog collar at weddings.

But Trevor the Labrador proved such an important part of Jo Swinney and Andy Crinson’s courtship, the bride and groom had to have him at their wedding.

And instead of just adding their pet pooch to the table plan, the dog-doting couple dressed him up in the same colours as the bridesmaids and gave him a formal role at the service at Langley Castle in Northumberland.

To make sure he felt like a “proper” guest Trevor was also presented with a “plus one”, by the loving couple, so kennels owner Kath Rowland could come along as his personal chaperone.

Their friends thought they were barking-mad, but the newlyweds too busy enjoying their big day to care.

Jo, 43, said: “I knew everyone would think we were crazy, but we just had to do it. I wanted a castle and we both wanted Trevor at the wedding.

“He’s a part of everything we do and it seemed such a shame to come to this gorgeous countryside without him, when he would appreciate it so much.

“We wanted him to be a part of everything so we made him a bandana in the same colours as the bridesmaid’s dress. And because we didn’t have any ushers, it was left to Trevor.

“The day was fantastic and having him there just capped it all off for us.”

Newcastle-born and Carlisle-raised groom Andy, 46, was always keen to keep his wedding day in the North.

So when fiancee Jo found fairytale Northumberland venue Langley with luxury kennels Centre Barks close by in Hexham, the sweethearts quickly settled on their venue.

Now they have received all the snaps from the big day the newlyweds have opened up their wedding album to the Sunday Sun.

Jo said: “We always joked about how important the dog was, so we couldn’t leave him out.

“He is such a good boy, we knew we could trust him to behave. We didn’t tell all of the other guests so it was a real surprise for them. Everyone thought it was fabulous he was there.”

Happy Dog
by Wendy Harvey, Northumberland

Happy Dog

I am so glad that I live in the area so that I can use Centre Barks - I can now go on holiday with complete peace of mind knowing that my dog will be happy and well looked after whilst I'm away. My 4-year-old Border Terrier has just spent 11 days with Kath and has returned home very contented (and probably fitter). Apparently she has been trying to keep up with some of the bigger dogs that were also staying this time round - hence she has had lots of exercise in beautiful surroundings. The facilities are excellent and the dog units are such that it's very much a home away from home for my dog. I highly recommend Centre Barks - I think my dog would too if she could speak!

Best Holidays Ever
by Nikki Renton, Northumberland

Best Holidays Ever

We contemplated for ages before putting our dogs into kennels. We found Kath and haven't looked back. Kath loves her dogs and our dogs love Kath.

When one of our dogs became poorly, Kath had no hesitation in ringing us to let us know and going out of her way to take Jack to his own vets. This was a round journey of at least 70 miles. Kath kept us updated throughout his stay and gave him extra checks to make sure he was okay. Nothing was too much trouble.

Unfortunately Jack is no longer with us but our other dog stayed recently. This was her first time without Jack. She got extra cuddles of Kath and got taken into the house as she was missing Jack. When I went to pick her up you could see she had had a great time and we got a lovely photo of Terri enjoying herself.

Kath will ensure your dog is well looked after and enjoys their stay. Couldn't think of anybody better to do that.

Happy Holidays For All.
by Helen Hellyn, Northumberland

Happy Holidays For All.

Its always hard to leave a much loved pet and it has taken us years to take the plunge to finally choose a boarding kennel for our dog. I then stumbled across Centre Parks website & after communicating with Kath I soon felt a lot happier about booking our dog a holiday on Snape Farm.

Kath was great with us as anxious parents & brilliant with our dog. Ethel our Lab had a wonderful stay and came back fitter, happy & tired after all her lovely walks and she made lots of new friends. kath kept in touch with us via text so we had daily updates so we knew how our dog was doing, this is a lovely touch & put our minds at ease.

When we went to fetch Ethel she went back to Kath & nuzzled into her Lap , I think thats the best testimony she could give to say what a wonderful person Kath is & what a great time she had. We are already planning more breaks for us knowing Ethel is happy & content with Kath & her Husband John. They are very hard working people who's care and attention shows in the many happy dogs who return time & time again.
